Synopsis: Na Hee Do is a high school girl who practices fencing and wants to join the national team to face her idol Go Yu Rim. The economic crisis of 1998 is a blow for everyone, including his high school which dissolves the fencing team and the young Baek Yi Jin who has to do several odd jobs after the bankruptcy of his father’s company.

Distribution :

  •  Kim Tae Ri : By Hee Do
  • Nam Joo Hyuk : Baek Yi Jin
  • Bona : Go Your Rim
  • Choi Hyun Wook : Moon Ji Woong
  • Lee Joo Myoung : Ji Seung Wan
  • Seo Jae Hee : Shin Jae Kyung
  • Kim Hye Eun as Coach Yang Chan Mi

Good points :

  • The acting performance:  I am very satisfied with the performances of each actor and actress, especially since they play characters over several years (not too many physical differences) which evolve. I believed in all of them and can’t see anyone else interpreting them!

  • The retro atmosphere:  If you like Reply, I think you will appreciate the details brought to this drama. Even if we are not in extreme detail of the franchise mentioned, the drama manages to cause a feeling of nostalgia but also to squeeze the hearts of its spectators. There are passages between the past and the present which precisely accentuate this impression of nostalgia because we discover the life of our heroine via her diary.
5 Facts about Twenty Five Twenty One, Nam Joo-hyuk's New Drama
  • Information about the crisis and its repercussions:  Given the historical context in which the drama takes place, it is obvious to see the repercussions of the crisis on different people and their lives greatly upset. Afterwards, I find that the drama remains light all the same except when it comes to the story of Yi Jin, whose adventures are directly linked to it, but it remains very interesting for spectators who do not know this part of Korean history!
  • Friendships:  Seung Wan and Ji Woong are the duo of friends that I really like because they care about each other without their friendship being ambiguous contrary to what those around them think. Hui Do and Yu Rim have a very stormy relationship with ups and downs but which, in the end, is worth the detour because it will have brought a lot to the two young girls! Then the whole gang ends up uniting and becomes a nice bunch of friends that I want to find again!

  • Passion:  I would even say passions because each main character has something that ignites them or is on the way to finding them. Fencing is obviously at the heart of the heroine Hee Do and her rival Yu Rim and I find their scenes intense because the desperation is palpable in both. At different times of course, but palpable. I won’t dwell on Yi Jin to avoid spoiling the surprise, but I’m happy to see his path strewn with obstacles and the end of it.

Negative points :

  • Brightness:  I am repeating myself for the umpteenth time. I don’t like the brightness of the drama which is way too bright! The colors are also too saturated for my taste, sometimes I didn’t find scenes very pleasant to watch…

  • The Ending:  I know a lot of people didn’t like the ending. Personally, that of the main couple suits me but that of the friends leaves me on my hunger.
