Coffee Prince is a 2007 South Korean television series starring Yoon Eun-hye, Gong Yoo, Lee Sun-kyun, and Chae Jung-an. Based on the novel of the same name written by Lee Sun-mi, it was aired on MBC’s Mondays and Tuesdays at the 21:55 (KST) time slot from July 2 and August 28, 2007 consisting of 17 episodes.

The drama portrays the story of an unlikely romance between a tomboyish woman, who dresses like a man in order to get work, and a young food empire mogul. Coffee Prince also known as one of the classic korean dramas to watch starring Yoon eun hye and gong yoo as the main leads and the actors respectively

The drama was released in 2008 and thus has an old setting . but regardless of the fact I enjoyed it very much in 2021 as well cause the coffee , cafe vibes and the cool relaxing atmosphere that the drama had was refreshing during the times of difficult cooped up pandemic .

This drama follows the category of gender bender as well as Romance . The story revolves around Kon eun chan , a 24 yo hardworking girl who is working multiple jobs to support her family that includes a widowed mother and her still high school going younger sister . She gets involved with han gyeol when he asks her ( not knowing his true gender) to pretend to be his lover to chase away prospective brides and marriage dates . That was hilarious . As the series of events follow, Han gyeol is challenged by his grandmother who is terminally ill to triple investment by transforming a run down cafe into a coffee house and in dire need of a job and convincing Han gyeol , she starts her job as a waiter with four other handsome young men .

Things start to complicate when han gyeol gets attracted to eun chan , a “ boy” and further complicates when han gyeol’s cousin(lee sun gyun )also takes an interest in her knowing that she is a girl.

I would like to rate this drama a : 4.5/5

Costumes : 3.75/5

( eun chan rocked the tomboy look but come on , the wedding outfit could have been soooo better and gong yoo pretty much rocks anything  )

The drama is new and very ahead of its time . It portrays that I quote Danny from Schitt’s creek “ I don’t care what is on the outside , I am interested in the wine inside”. Love is above all gender and if you want to be with someone , nothing can stop you ( ummm… except their consent obvio) . The romance seen is so mature and childish but so sweet at the same time . I love the chemistry between the leads. I do think the plotline was generic but well isn’t it always . the other ikemen at the coffee shop  Min Yeop , Ha Rim and  Noh Sun Ki , Mr. Hong , I really liked how their characters grow on the audience and I enjoyed watching their friendships and silly stuff. This drama is pretty old but it’s a classic and you can confirm it since you can rewatch it as many times as you want . What I really liked about the ending was that they tried to stretch it but it was all so wholesome and they did justice to the storyline . I was glad that they didn’t show the marriage or a very big time leap but kept it simple and practical .

A big appreciation and special mention to the second female lead Chae Jung an aka han yoo joo who was very mature and level headed .I could relate to her a lot and was really proud of her when she decided her priorities and OmG she is so cute too .

I would suggest to watch the Coffee prince to experience the old korea , the flip phones , gong yoo’s hotness but with those cute dimple player vibes and Yoon Eun Hye ’s charming portrayal of eun chan , it is really smooth and a perfect show to binge if you got nothing and want to relax with a cup of coffee and feel romantic and laugh.

Thank you for reading this !. Would love to hear your thoughts about it.
